Kutaisi University (KU) is a relatively young academic institution with only 19 years of history. It was founded as a private higher educational institution on the basis of Kutaisi State University and later developed into Kutaisi Institute of Law and Economics. In 1992 its status changed due to the scope of the degree programs offered here and the Institute became Kutaisi University of Law and Economics. The newly founded higher educational institution was received enthusiastically by the public mainly due to common respect for its founders –Valerian Kelbakiani and Revaz Laghidze. Very soon afterwards the quality of academic activity at the University, professionalism and dedication of its staff earned the institution universal acknowledgment and regard. At the time Kutaisi University produced highly-qualified specialists in the following areas: law, finances and credit, economics and management of production, international economic relations, regional economics and management, office management, information technologies and foreign language.
